2016 Subaru 'SUPER' Outback Bought a 2016 Outback and a donor 2018 Outback both wrecked and turning into one vehicle. Airbags were deployed in the silver wagon making it a perfect donor for the mechanical/cosmetic damage on the red one.
September 21 2026 Pulled most of the broken parts from the 2016 Outback off ready to receive parts from the 2018. Have the donor car partially torn down should have it competed tomorrow.
September 22 2026 Removed entire front undercarriage and stuffed it into the red outback. Car is now fully functional, now will be the work of getting it back to looking good.
October 1 2026 Interior is all cleaned up and waiting for new windshield. Front fenders and bumper are here, still waiting on hood. The donor car is completely stripped and sent off to the crusher, will be replacing drivers side doors from donor car which is going to require a full tear down of the doors for paint. Slowly getting there.
2012 Subaru Outback Arrived overheated and had a shutter at 70+mph. Customer wants a full rebuild as she loves this car, replacing everything on the motor and suspension that needs attention.
September 1 2026 Pulled the heads down and found exhaust valve guides were starting to fall out. Resourced a used head and we can continue forward with a full cleaning, lapping, and seal replacement. New short block also arrived along with the rest of the parts.
Dropped valve guide on #3. The rest of the exhaust guides were also about half way out.
Correct height for valve guides. Obvious how close they were to coming out vs the other picture.
September 12 2026 Fully assembled long block with all new OEM parts. Installed new end links front and rear and polished up the motor install. Thanks again to Steph for the opportunity to take the 'Beast' project.
2012 SUBARU WRX dropped off making a horrible noise on and off. Noticeable amount of oil everywhere around the turbo, very hard cranking. Guessing a main and possible rod bearing.
PROJECT UPDATE 3/29/2026: Removed oil plug and found excessive metal on the magnet, after tearing down found #1 Cylinder Rod was spun and #2 and #4 Main Bearings were smoked. Noticed all vacuum lines were loose along with the inlet to the turbo. Turbo has no play, but will not spin freely, guessing metal in the journal, no pre-filter on banjo. Along with all that the up pipe was separated completely. Full rebuild TBD.

PROJECT UPDATE 4/5/2026: Forged SCAT Rods and Nippon Racing Pistons.
PROJECT UPDATE 4/8/2026: Long block assembled and ready for new Arashi 20G turbo setup.
PROJECT UPDATE 4/18/2026: Turbo showed up, everything bolted up great. Long block dropped in and ready for 500 mile break in before dyno tune. Thank you Tyler, this car is going to be a monster, turbo spool is insane.
2009 SUBARU WRX with a JDM 2.0 swap, had low compression on cylinder 4 coming from the intake side on leak down. Found ring completely gone taking out cylinder wall and intake valves not seating.
Smoking gun for low compression, incorrect intake cam sprocket install
PROJECT UPDATE 3/20/2026: Will be using a EJ257 donor block and installing new STI Pistons and donor rods, polished crank, and new ACL Race Bearings. Rebuilt the heads with new valve seals and lapped valves for perfect sealing. Should be done this weekend.
PROJECT UPDATE 3/25/2026: Motor is installed and running. Initial break-in was great, oil filter clean and oil was perfect. Customer to will be picking her up this weekend. Thanks to Alex for letting me take the project on.
